Kidsport Gymnastics

Meeting brought to order at 1:15 PM

Present:

Old Business:

                Meet Request Dates & State Meet Bids

·         Jennie posted the requests on the NC website so people could see if any dates were over-crowded and have the option to change dates if necessary.

·         We still have a few dates where there are too many requests for meets.  Lack of enough judges to service all of those meets dictates that we offer only 3-4 meets per weekend.

Terri Costa        Motion that we consider looking at the number of gymnasts in the meet to help make the

decision on who gets the judges first:

Suggested guidelines for assigning judges for the 2008-2009 season:

o        1-20 gymnasts                 1 (or 2 if available)

o        21-50                                    1 day meet – 2 judges

o        51 – 160                              1 day meet – 8 judges

 or 4 judges for  2 days 

o        More than 160                                 2 days  - 8 judges

If the meet should happen to be a one-day meet, the decision for which day awarded

 should be determined by the meet directors as they communicate with each other.

If they are unable to come to an agreement, the meet date will be determined by the

assignor.

According to the Meet Request forms the crowded weekends are:

                September 27-28

October 18-19

November 8-9

February 7-8

February 28-March 1

The dates are to be placed on the NC website again by mid-June and we will finalize the dates after National Congress and place them in the July newsletter.

Discussion:

How do we make Intent Forms more reliable? 

The intent forms are very valuable to the people who are trying to organize the season:  (judging director, meet directors, state chair person, etc.)  However, if the coaches do not take them seriously and do not complete one or ignore their informal commitment indicated on the form, the form becomes less reliable.

Intent forms will be due by July 25.  An email reminder will go out on July 18.  Jennie will publish the names of the teams who did not send the Intent Form by the due date.

Mary noted that the Judging Request Forms would be due by August 15.

Mindy Yaeger   Motion to raise the entry fee for the Prep Opt State Meets as follows:

                $50.00 instead of $45.00

                If in an outside facility:  $55.00 instead of $50.00

The Board agreed that all qualifying scores will remain the same as last year’s scores.  It was suggested that we add a few reminders in our NC Club Directory:

·         No babies will be permitted on the competitive floor

·         No cell phones are to be used or heard on the competitive floor

·         Coaches’ children may not be in the hospitality room

·         Coaches and judges need to appreciate the efforts of the host gym to provide hospitality rooms and should not make unreasonable requests

The State Clinic will be held at Salem Gymnastics on the weekend of August 8-10.

Basic organization:

·         Sessions will be 50 minutes long with a 10 minute break between.

·         Judges’ testing will be offered on Sunday from 8:00 AM – Noon.

·         Marion Dykes will be here on Saturday and we will use her for interactive discussions between coaches & judges; also, try to collect compulsory and optional questions for her to answer in a round-table format

·         Friday will start at 1:30 PM for registration with the first sessions starting at 2:00 PM and ending around 6:00 PM

·         Saturday morning (9am – Noon) Salem has pre-school classes.  Some judging sessions will be offered but gym floor sessions will start at Noon.

·         All sessions will conclude by 1:00 PM on Sunday.

·         Fees:  $50.00 per person (clinicians will pay $30).  Fee includes a social on Friday night and lunch on Saturday.

(Individual professional members were suggested for presenting the following sessions.  As you read your name below, would you please contact Jennie @ jenniekadams@coastalnet.com to indicate your willingness to present or inability to present.  Knowing this by a month before the clinic would be very helpful.)
