Minutes for the NC USAG Board

Saturday, October 17, 2009

Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM

 Present:

Jennie Adams, Terri Costa, Sarah Myers, Kristie Phillips-Bannister,     Ludmilla Shobe, Darlene Rose, Mary Hoagland

Absent:

Jason Braun, Suzie Sanocki, Mindy Yeager, Krystal Kramer

Discussion:

Jennie asked us if we noticed the most recently purchased banners curling or not hanging right in our gyms.  She was concerned about the quality of the materials used.  We decided that they were fine and if it saved money to continue to use the same ones for this year.

Jennie said it is time to set judging panels for the state meets.  She asked if we wanted to let the meet referee set the panel and equipment assignments with suggestions from us (as we have done in the past)?

Motion – Sarah Myers   2nd – Kristie Phillips

The NC USAG Board will set the panel of judges and assign events to the judges on the panel.

Discussion:  Can we set the Level 9 & 10 panels before the Regional assignments are made?  We can set the slate of judges, but the head judge may have to change some of the judges’ events after the Regional assignments are known.

Question called.  Motion passed unanimously.

Motion:  Sarah Myers   2nd – Ludmilla Shobe

We will allow the meet referee to set tentative panels for the Board’s approval prior to the state meets.

Motion passed unanimously.

It was suggested that the Board consider making a “protocol statement” concerning the noise level of large teams cheering at competitions to the point of others in the competition not being able to hear the music, etc.  This is inappropriate behavior at USAG competitions.

Motion – Ludmilla Shobe      2nd – Terri Costa

Place the older age groups first in the state competitions for Levels 4, 5 & 6.

Motion passed – unanimously.

A suggestion was made to have the state run camps and clinics for the best NC gymnasts, especially at the 5 & 6 level of this sport.  They are the gymnastics future of NC.  Come up with a selection process to find these kids and invite them to attend and be coached by the best coaches & judges in NC.  The Board would run it for the state.  The kids would pay so the coaches and judges could be paid.

A sub – committee was formed to work on the idea and to develop something for further discussion by the group.  The committee members are Ludmilla, Sarah, Kristie, & Darlene.

Regional apparel was discussed with the following ideas for this year:

        Girls will receive a leotard, mico-mini gym shorts, & a sweatshirt w/hood.

Coaches will receive a collarless “Adidas-style” shirt (to be worn with black pants of their own)

Optional Judges Cup will be held at Impact in Cary.

Next Board meeting is at Judges’ Cup Saturday evening on Jan.9.

Motion to adjourn by Terri Costa    2nd – Sarah Myers
