While this is going out to all on the
list, it is especially important to club owners:
While at Congress, the State Chairs were
shown a really cool ad campaign that's going out in USA Today on August 8th,
I think, to coincide with the beginning of the world's interest in
gymnastics as our competition begins in China. It's an 8 page spread that
finally(!) brings the message that gymnastics has roots in simple
skills..(implied ..that are taught in your local gym) LIFE IS BALANCE and
there's a picture of a little girls walking on a curb, LIFE IS STRENGTH
showing a little boy hanging on a tree limb.

Attached is information on a fund raiser
for Shayla Worley’s family to attend the Olympics to see Shayla compete.
They estimate that they will need to raise $49,000.00 for their family to
go. If Shayla does not make the team the Worley’s plan to donate the
proceeds to another athlete’s family. Shayla has made it to the “Final
Selection Camp” and leaves Wednesday, July 16th for camp in
Houston. Selection of the team will be made July 19th .
I know most of us and our USAG members
can not make it to Kissimmee for the tournament, but I thought some of you
and your USAG members might want to make a donation to help Shayla’s family.
Please send to your membership ASAP.

than the roaming pastures of Shelby. I have been watching the status of our
NC gymnasts and am proud to see the continued growth. I hope to see some of

USA Gymnastics statement regarding
the E:60 program concerning gymnastics
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., April 15, 2008 -- Any form of
abuse against an athlete is unacceptable.
USA Gymnastics seeks to
do everything within its jurisdiction
to stop abuse. This jurisdiction
does not extend to the employment practices of private gymnastics
clubs. USA Gymnastics’ diligence in
protecting its athletes creates a record of these actions (a list of terminated
members) that invites scrutiny of the sport and
the organization’s efforts to protect children who participate in it.

Hello everyone! My name is Bridget Hild and I
am writing this e-mail out of concern for my teammates and future URI
gymnasts. As some of you may already know the URI Women’s Gymnastics
Program was recently informed that this would be our last competitive
season. On Thursday, January 31st the coaching staff and the URI Team was
informed of this demise. After receiving a phone call at 10:00 am we
reported to the Mackal Conference Room for what we thought was a routine
meeting. We were discussing our upcoming meet at Brown, however when our
coaches and athletic administration walked through the door the mood of our
team completely shifted.

The minutes attached will provide
some clarification about Prep Optional rules, as well as plans for summer
education.
The Board is hoping for input from you concerning summer workshops or clinic
experiences.
A question has arisen about the youngest age that Rookies may compete.
While the Board has not specifically set this date, the logic of stated
compulsory equivalency is that Rookies would be equivalent to Level 3's and
Level 4"s. On page 19 of R & P, please note that a Level 3 gymnast must
have reached her 5th birthday in order to compete.

1/8/2008
Dear Meet Directors,
We have another very busy season ahead with many
meets on the same weekend.
ASSIGINING:
The USAG Board has set up recommendations for assigning judges
based on numbers collected from the Meet Intent forms. In some cases
you will be assigned fewer than 8 judges, judges for only one day, or some
judges that are not rated Level 10. The assignors will do everything
possible to make sure you have enough properly rated judges to accommodate
your meet. However, to cover all meets you may have to use creative
scheduling such as two events at a time or have two level 10 judges follow
the optional gymnasts while the lower rated judges cover the Prep Op
gymnasts.

Merry Christmas and Happy
Hanukkah to all of you,
Here's a few things of gymnastics interest to most of you.
Danny Davis, of Starlite Gymnastics in Shelby, regretfully had to resign
from the NC USAG Board at the beginning of December. Luckily for Danny,
unluckily for NC, Danny has signed with a firm in Boston
for a new, non--gymnastics position. He's probably there right now as this
e-mail goes out. Being that he's a Green Bay fan, he's more than likely
enjoying the cold, even though he'll be in Patriot country. We wish you the
best, Danny, and hope you come back home when you tire of New England.

Mat Clarification |
|
From: Connie Maloney
Date: November 19, 2007 |
|
|
I have been made
aware that there is some confusion in the field regarding a mat that looks
like a springboard (mount trainer).
Prior to the 2005-06 season, it was allowed at only the compulsory levels.
Last year (2006-07) it was added to the R & P on page 78, top #5. b.” At
Levels 7-10, a manufactured mount mat (mount trainer) may be used for
mounting purposes.”
This year it is still in the R & P (same page & #), but no longer in bold
font, as it is not new.
Please make sure that the Meet Directors and Meet Referees know that this
is an allowed piece of equipment at both compulsory and optional JO Levels.
Thanks,
Connie Maloney
